Referring back to a high-level executive assistant I talked with in July regarding the need for protocol and etiquette, she mentioned a new area she is challenged with is social networking skills required internally. Her organization has set up something called Internal BUZZ. This requires an individual setting up their own page about themselves (somewhat like Facebook) and interacting with other administrative assistants in the organization.
I am hearing more of this as I work with executive and administrative assistants throughout the country. If you are not experienced with Facebook or LinkedIn and other similar social networks, it can be daunting. Even if you are, making time at work for internal networking can be a challenge in your already-busy day. However, that is where the road is heading for all of us. This is another skill to add to your resume.
