To our friends on the East Coast – our thoughts and prayers are with you. It is our hope that you are safe and sound. Hugs from Office Dynamics.
Halloween is just what I needed to replenish my young spirit which kept me going all last week. Last Monday night, I was with my grand kids, adult children, and my sister from California. It was pumpkin-carving night. Pumpkins were lined up on my kitchen counter with some pumpkin-carving tools and the good old fashioned knife and big soup spoon. We had more people and pumpkins than tools. But we did not lack a good time! After a long, grueling day at work, this is just what I had needed. I had fun digging my hands in the gooey pumpkin stuff, straining pumpkin seeds, and overseeing creative ideas. When woke up and headed to work Tuesday, I was prepared to face another demanding day, I was lighthearted, creative, and felt on top of the world.
Then came the big night–Halloween! I have a wonderful annual tradition whereby my kids, grand kids and Jasmine and her family trick or treat in The Estates which is part of my development, except this is where the huge homes reside and they are decorated to the hilt for Halloween. The homeowners dress up, open their big foyers which are set up with beverages, food, and treats for all to enjoy, and the streets are filled with children and adults talking, laughing, and showing off their costumes. It is a fabulous place where adults and children can enjoy one of the most fun holidays of the year! Once again, I felt replenished the next day when I went to work. I felt invigorated, creative, and ready to conquer the work world.
Did you have that same experience? I hope so. However, I know many adults who just sit around and act like Halloween is just another day. Even if you don’t have children, you can relive your childhood and bring forth those wonderful carefree feelings whenever you choose. Do you remember those days when you didn’t have to worry about a mortgage, utilities, food, and holding down a good job?
I want to challenge you this week and as you prepare for and go through the holiday season to live it as if you were that young-spirited child. Children have a sense of adventure, curiosity, and creativity. They don’t see limits–or say, “No I can’t do that.” In their little minds they can do anything. And even if they meet an obstacle, they are determined to overcome it. Children are inquisitive, intuitive, and spontaneous. When was the last time you acted spontaneous? Do your feathers get ruffled when the schedule at home changes?
What can you add to your holiday season to make it more fun and less so “ho hum”? Why not play detective and find out what your closest friends and family really want for the holiday–what has meaning to them? Be creative when it comes to wrapping your gifts. Can you create some activity at work that would involve co-workers and enhance teamwork?
The ideas are only limited by our minds and our ability to let go of some old traditions and embrace some new ones. You will be amazed at how great you will feel which will increase your productivity at work and at home. Plus you will have more fun!
Wishing you a great week.
