You may know our story and why we have chosen to support finding a cure for pancreatic cancer. Our CEO and founder, Joan Burge, lost her husband, Dave, to this horrible disease earlier this year. Dave battled this disease for four years and he was one of the rare few who had that opportunity. Only 23% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer will be alive one year from their diagnosis and 4% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer will live to reach the five year survival rate.
November is National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and we hope that you will all take action to raise awareness and support finding a cure for this cancer. Pancreatic cancer is the least funded cancer for research and finding a cure.
Here are some facts about this disease from pancan.org.
- Symptoms are not usually present in the early stages of pancreatic cancer.
- Symptoms that do develop are often vague.
- Symptoms that lead to diagnosis can include: jaundice, abdominal and/or back pain, unexplained weight loss and loss of appetite.
How can you help?
