Today marks the anniversary of the day we lost one of our own. Dave Burge was the Chief Operating Officer for Office Dynamics International when he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on January 3, 2011. His passing was peaceful and he was with loved ones. It’s two years later and we still miss Dave and cite him around the office on a regular basis. We’ll tell each other, “That’s so DAVE!” or we’ll ask each other in a team strategy meeting “What would Dave have done?” He is definitely still here in spirit with us.
Joan’s family has an annual tradition to remember Dave on this day. They gather at her home for a nice family dinner and they remember him with special cherished touchstones and photographs of Dave. They release balloons into the sky and talk with young grandchildren about their ‘Papa’ – it truly is a beautiful thing.
We are into living BIG here at Office Dynamics and Dave certainly lived his life BIG. We wanted to commemorate the day with something special and we know that Joan just adores flowers. She’d have fresh flowers in the office daily – and someday she will! We also know that the color purple means something around here. As I mentioned above, Dave passed from pancreatic cancer and the color of their awareness bracelets, etc is all a beautiful deep purple. That’s why we chose to gift this beautiful Gemstone Orchid to Joan in memory of her beloved Dave. They put it on display with his photo and favorite hat that reads “Life is good” above the bill.
Wishing you a beautiful day. Remember those you lost and what you loved about them. Feel their presence with you today.
