Question: “My boss wants me to research all-day team-building activities that, in her words, will ‘make people suffer a little.’ Her theory is that we all need to have our cushy office lifestyles totally stripped away to kick us out of our comfort zones and remind us of how to work together on a more human level. What have been others’ experiences with these sorts of ‘pleasantly harsh’ activities, as she refers to them? What should we try, and what should we avoid?” – Donna, law office admin [Read more…]
Our team recently had the opportunity to fly to Orlando, Florida and participate in the inaugural Admin Pro Forum event hosted by our friends at Business Management Daily. We always enjoy traveling together and our opportunities to do so are few and far between.
I really love attending events for the administrative profession. It’s a great chance to network and show our support for the profession.
The administrative community forms bonds quickly and tightly. I’ve built an outstanding network around the world with professionals at all levels through attending events like this one. I also know many assistants who have done the same and have thriving administrative networks today along with much career success.
While in Orlando we thought it would be fun to record a few Facebook Live posts while we were at the event. We hope you enjoy these videos of our event recaps each day; you can find them embedded in this post below. We hope to see you at an event in the near future! [Read more…]
This month our question from our friends at Business Management Daily.
Question: “I am an administrative assistant at a very large company and my cubicle is right outside the door of one of the directors. He happens to loudly use a particular common curse word whenever he’s frustrated. I cringe every time I sense it coming. In most cases I try to scurry away from my desk so I don’t have to hear it, but sometimes I do get caught off guard. Do you have any suggestions for how I can deal with this, or approach the problem directly?” – Anonymous & Frustrated [Read more…]
This month’s question from our friends at The Admin Pro Forum is from Maddy who is struggling to become part of the team at her new office.
Take a moment to read her question and let us know what you think in the comments of this blog.
Have you ever found yourself in a similar scenario? What did you do?
Question: “I was really looking forward to working for the company that hired me a few weeks ago, but right away I got the sense that no one was very interested in making me feel like I was a valued part of a team. I wasn’t introduced to anyone but my boss, and no one sitting near me has introduced themselves. I won’t be working with them directly, but it still feels uncomfortable to go into work each day with strangers who seem to want to remain strangers. What course of action would you recommend to a person who’s shy and doesn’t want to walk around telling people who I am?” – Maddy, Customer Relations
It’s your turn to chime in and offer up your helpful solutions to Maddy. How can she get plugged in?

Question: “We have so many people in my office creating and revising so many documents and swapping them around, I don’t know of the best way to ensure someone’s not grabbing the wrong one from the network—or from the person they’re teaming with. Does anyone have any tips so I don’t keep hearing, ‘Oh, I think this is the right version’?” – Kristen, Office Manager [Read more…]
