10 Ways to Show Your Appreciation to Your Executive Assistant

Did you know Administrative Professionals Week is April 20 – 24?

Administrative Professionals Week is a special time for me, as I once served as an administrative professional before starting my own training company, Office Dynamics, in 1990. It’s a time to celebrate and thank the hardworking assistants who help us succeed every day.

As an employer, there are many ways you can show your appreciation to your assistant during this week and throughout the year. Here are five suggestions:

  1. Invest in their professional development. Whether it’s attending a conference, seminar, or training session, supporting your assistant’s career growth shows that you value their efforts and want to help them succeed.

  2. Give a thoughtful gift. Flowers and coffee mugs are nice, but consider something that will help advance your assistant’s career, like a book, online course, or webinar.

  3. Take them to lunch. This is a great opportunity to get to know your assistant better and show them that you appreciate their hard work.

  4. Offer flex time. If it’s possible within your company’s policies and project deadlines, consider letting your assistant leave early one day as a way to say thank you for all the times they’ve stayed late to help you.

  5. Say thank you sincerely. A heartfelt compliment can be the most valuable gift you can give. Whether you publicly praise your assistant at a team meeting or personally thank them, your gesture will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Write a personal note. A handwritten note of appreciation can be a powerful way to show your gratitude. Take a few minutes to jot down your thoughts and express your sincere thanks for everything your assistant does.

  2. Recognize their hard work in front of others. Consider recognizing your assistant’s contributions at a team meeting or in a company-wide email. This can not only show your appreciation, but also help to boost your assistant’s confidence and visibility within the organization.

  3. Offer additional perks or benefits. Depending on your resources and budget, you might consider offering additional perks or benefits to your assistant as a way to show your appreciation. This could be anything from a gym membership or a monthly massage to a flexible work schedule or extra time off.

  4. Take them out for a special activity. Consider taking your assistant out for a fun activity, like a round of golf, a movie, or a cooking class. This can be a great way to relax and bond with your assistant, and show them that you value their contributions to your team.

  5. Show appreciation throughout the year. It’s important to show your appreciation to your administrative professional not just during Administrative Professionals Week, but throughout the year. Consider finding ways to thank your assistant regularly, whether it’s through small gestures or more significant gestures of appreciation. This can help to foster a positive and supportive work environment and strengthen your working relationship with your assistant.

Administrative professionals are essential to the smooth running of businesses and organizations, and they deserve to be recognized and appreciated for their hard work. So take the time this week to thank your assistant and show them how much you value their contributions. But don’t stop there – make sure to show your appreciation throughout the entire year as well. Whether it’s through small gestures or more significant acts of appreciation, letting your assistant know that their hard work is valued and appreciated can help to foster a positive and supportive work environment and strengthen your working relationship with them. So don’t wait until next year to show your appreciation – make sure to thank your administrative professional all year round!
