Sometimes living a BIG life requires making hard choices and as I sit down to write you this week I am faced with one of those choices. You see, recently I have been challenged within my Wellness Pillar. During the course of the last 2 months I have had to deal with an illness and surgery that took me away from my work and it is only recently that I have been able to get back to my work and my passion, which is helping and inspiring others to be the best they can be. As the weeks have passed during my recovery I have had quite a bit of time to reflect on my Pillars and learn where I am supposed to be investing the energy that I do have.
Remember how we’ve discussed that all the Pillars are interwoven and when one Pillar needs more attention the others are all effected? Well, obviously since my Wellness Pillar is in need of quite a bit of attention right now, my Career Pillar is going to have to take the back seat for a moment. This is a very difficult choice for me and it really is a choice. I could try to keep barreling through all the work I have to get done … and believe me there is a LOT right now. I have speaking engagements, training, travel, our big Annual Conference for Administrative Excellence just around the corner, a team that needs me and all the other aspects of running my own companies. But, if I do not prioritize and cut back on some of my work duties, my health will greatly suffer and I won’t have anything left to do the things I love. If my health suffers even more than it already has, that would cause my Career Pillar to crumble. In order to save all of our Pillars, sometimes we have to step back and give ONE Pillar the attention it needs so it can stay strong and it will soon be strong enough to help the other Pillars to thrive. I have always said that your Pillars need equal attention over time.
One of my career duties is writing Monday Motivators™ each week. On occasion Jasmine Freeman my Chief Executive Assistant and Vice President took on that task recently while I was out of the office and did a great job. Together, we have decided that we are going to take the month of September off from writing Monday Motivators™ in order for me to keep my work energy focused on some of the bigger items ahead and for Jasmine to have the time freed up to help me in these other areas and prepare for our big conference.
We have decided to still deliver to you weekly a Monday Motivator. Beginning next week, we will be sharing with you for the some of our favorite past Motivators each week. This will be a great refresher on past topics, if you are new subscriber it will be new information and it this also an opportunity for you to reflect on what might be happening for you right now. Is there an area of your life that may be in need of more attention?
This is a good time of year to take a step back and think about what you want to give attention to most. It is easy to fall into the 4th quarter of 2014 with a full-steam-ahead attitude but where will that leave you?
I want to ask you what is a choice you need to make that will help you give strength to a Pillar that is in need? Do you have to drop some things off of your Career Pillar in order to take better care of your health right now, like I do? Do you need to spend a few more nights a week with your children than you do going to the gym? What about your spiritual pillar? If you are in some sort of situation that may seem like it is absorbing all your time and attention, yet it is necessary, then don’t hesitate to make a choice for the time being that will allow you to give it your full attention. When the crisis or situation passes you can then begin to give your focused attention back to the other pillars.
We all do have BIG lives to live and I intend to keep on living mine. I know as my energy builds back up and I am surrounded by the energy of all of you I will return stronger, wiser and ready to help jump start your week!
